ABOUT "All The Fading Words"
"All the Fading Words" is the first photobook by Asako Naruto
Asako Naruto turns her lens toward the quiet, ephemeral rhythms of everyday life in Madrid—a city whose breath and transience she captures with a rare intimacy. Most of the photographs were captured within the sphere of her daily life, reflecting a profound personal bond with her immediate environment.
The title, All the Fading Words, is drawn from her series of the same name that has garnered critical acclaim in recent years. Through this work, she gathers fragments of untold stories that seem to drift through the streets of Madrid—subtle traces of memory and presence rendered with the delicacy of afterimages.
A reflective, poetic gaze runs throughout the book, unifying its vision. Particularly striking is her recurring use of train stations and railway scenes—motifs that echo with a sense of movement, departure, and lingering stillness. Many of these scenes were captured using special glass filters, such as prism filters, which lend the images a dreamlike, in-between quality—hovering on the edge of reality and reverie.
The book closes with a special essay by film director Arantxa Aguirre, whose words resonate deeply with Asako Naruto’s images, offering a quiet yet profound layer of insight that enriches the visual narrative.
